A profound emotion was felt by all the faithful of Notre-Dame du Lys this morning at the 11:15 a.m. Holy Mass. A delegation of Iraqi Christians from Baghdad was present, as well as an Iraqi priest who spoke with simple yet moving words about the massacre last October in Baghdad Cathedral. The recounting of the events by one of the witnesses to this carnage transported the congregation into a moment of deep reflection. The young Iraqis present followed the Extraordinary Form of the Mass with fervor and devotion. Father Charles Fazilleau's beautiful sermon was translated into Arabic so that the Iraqis could absorb the lessons of this Passion Sunday.
Upon leaving the chapel, the smiles and handshakes exchanged with these young men from the East, already so tested in their faith, were a moving and joyful moment. Far beyond the language barrier, an infinite joy shone in their eyes. The joy of being alive in Christ.
