On August 31, 1991, the 2nd Foreign Infantry Regiment celebrated its 150th anniversary, the Battle of El Moungar and its return from Operation Daguet, the first Gulf War, during an exceptional cinematic performance.
Many friends have asked me if I have a copy of this show that I conceived, wrote, and directed while I was a section leader in the 2nd Foreign Infantry Regiment. So I thought I'd make this show available on this blog, a show to which the 1st Company, which remained at the rear base during the Gulf War, dedicated itself body and soul. Please excuse the quality, which isn't exceptional; technology has evolved considerably in 25 years!
Richard Bohringer was absent on the date of the show, so we recorded him and used his character as a voice-over to provide rhythm for the show.
Ernst Jünger had arrived two days earlier from Wilflingen in the Cessna of one of his doctor friends. I had arranged a meeting with Gustave Thibon for the day after the performance, but unfortunately it didn't happen because the participant who was supposed to guide us had let us down. So we spent the day at the Pont du Gard, which wasn't yet the fortress it is today.
A book will be published by the defunct Editions Lincoln of Patrick Mahé with a long interview with Ernst Jünger.
We have been given the privilege of living in the invisible realm of profound emotions, and this will remain our invaluable honor.
