Monsignor Centene...

The Vannetais are well off people. The homily of Monsignor Centène in the Saint-Pierre de Vannes cathedral last Sunday is invigorating. This is not the first time that the homilies of Monseigneur Centène have been cited on Catholic sites, and given the quality of these, it is not about to end.

Here is an excerpt from the homily for the ordination of two priests:

Because he is a father, the priest is a husband.

In the Holy Spirit, the gift of his life fruitful and sanctifies the Church.

The priest is spouse of the Church, to the point of placing at her service all the love of his heart, all the fatigues of his body, all the desires of his mind, all the joys of his soul. This is the profound reason for his beautiful commitment to celibacy.

The Holy Spirit makes him the man of the Church. This nuptial alliance means that they are no longer two but one flesh.

Imitate in your relationship to the Church the loving attention of a young spouse. Do not settle for formal fidelity.

Learn to discover what she likes, through an ever deeper knowledge of her magisterium.

Learn to discover what she desires through careful attention to her discipline.

According to Saint Paul's recommendation, cherish it "like your own flesh" (Eph 5:28).

Learn to regard her with esteem, speak of her with admiration, with tenderness and you will make her lovable in the eyes of all.

Never imitate those who are on the lookout for its wrinkles and blemishes. It is always the prelude to infidelity.

After two thousand years, if it's a little wrinkled, it's because it smiled a lot, if it's a little withered, it's because it cried a lot.

But each time you celebrate the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, you will give it back its beauty and the joy of its eternal youth if you are ready to give your life for it.

*The complete homily.
